Investico is an independent, non-profit organization. The Adessium Foundation is a premium sponsor and supports our work in the context of her ‘Public Interest’ program. The Dutch Foundation for Democracy and Media supported Investico with a contribution in 2014. Our reporters occasionally rely on funds like Fonds Bijzondere Journalistieke Projecten en Postcode Loterij Fonds voor journalisten. These and other donations do not affect the substantive decisions of the independent editorial staff.
Investico works with a multi-method research approach, including network analysis, WOB (FOI) requests, scraping, surveys, classical interviews with key players and traditional journalistic reportage. We always seek cooperation with other media. Our three media partners are Het Financieele Dagblad, Trouw and De Groene Amsterdammer. We also cooperate with other parties like national radio and television or regional newspapers.
An integral part of Investico is training young investigative journalists. We organize five-month Masterclasses for a small group of young academics each year. Our approach reaps praise from readers, stakeholders and fellow journalists. The jury of De Loep, the Dutch prize for investigative journalism of the Association for Investigative Journalism (VVOJ), wrote on the occasion of the nomination of our editorial team:
“The jury was impressed by the quality of the productions, especially since the research provided insight in a wide area of complex subjects. We sincerely hope that funding will remain available for this type of research and journalistic collaboration because the results are more than promising.”
